Christmas Festival

Over the years the DLBA has organised and run the Christmas Festival, which included the erection of the Christmas lights, Parade from the People’s park, Santa’s arrival and switch-on by the Cathaoirleach and Fireworks Display at the Harbour Plaza. Due to the success of the Christmas Festival, DLRCC took over the running of the festival. Due to COVID-19 this event will not take place this year.
The Christmas lights which are owned by the DLBA are in need of considerable annual investment. The lights have been upgraded annually to LED lamps. Some of the existing feature fixtures are beyond repair and last year it was decided to replace some of these with festoon lighting. There were issues with the criss-cross festoon lights as the long cabling overloaded the system in places and there was some cable damage from overheating. The DLRCC has supported the DLBA financially with the costs of repair, erection, removal and storage of our Christmas lights and we have already met to try and secure funding for this year. There has been a number of meetings with the contractor as they will need to replace & add additional strings this year to solve the overheating issue.

The lights switch-on is scheduled for the Saturday 28th November.
With Covid there is unlikely to be a parade or harbour plaza event this year, but it will be very important that the town looks festive and encourages footfall & families to visit and shop in our town. The DLBA committee plans to run some promotional events for Christmas.
