Digital Dún Laoghaire – CoderDojo is Growing

Digital Dún Laoghaire is delighted to announce that the Dún Laoghaire CoderDojo is growing and moving to a new home. After two great events in the dlr Lexicon, we’re now moving to the bigger location of Starbucks, on Marine Road (beside Nandos).

CoderDojo is a global volunteer-led community of free programming clubs (or Dojos) that focuses on teaching children (Ninjas) how to code. The goal is to educate children in programming and ICT skills in a fun environment, and teach them skills that are vital in the 21st century.

Sandra Maguire of CoderDojo Dún Laoghaire says – ‘The mentors and I are delighted that CoderDojo is now available to more Dún Laoghaire kids. This is an amazing opportunity for girls and boys to acquire a new set of hard and soft skills, and to open up more career options. Undoubtedly this will also return benefits to the Dún Laoghaire area in the future.’

Starting from Monday March 27th the Digital Dun Laoghaire CoderDojo will start meeting in Starbucks every week from 6pm to 8pm, and Ninjas aged between 7 and 14 years old can sign up to join the waiting list here.

There are over 400 children in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area that are on the waiting list, the Digital Dún Laoghaire Dojo aims to ease pressure allowing more and more Ninjas to move into the Digital Space.

Finally, as we’re expanding, we’re also going to need technical mentors to impart their expertise on the Ninjas, if you have the relevant skill set and would like to get involved, please fill out this form, and we’ll be in touch soon
