The exhibition ‘From Coast to Coast’ explores Murrays travels over the last two years taking in iconic locations along the the wild Atlantic way and the east coast of America from New Jersey coast up to Maine.
With just his easel and paint brushes he travels along the wild, weather-beaten cliffs of the west of Ireland and the forlorn and precarious coastline of Boston and Maine in the US.

I’m compelled to paint the fleeting moments of light and the physical changes of the conditions of the sea, making quick impressions with my paint brush, recording exactly what I see in a short period of intense work. Working this modus operandi, I have come to appreciate the qualities of ruggedness and sublimity of these environments. It is in these moments of privacy and silence that I can observe the metaphysical realities of nature and contemplate the transient moments of human life to the timelessness of nature.

The result of my travels have given me an opportunity to create a new series of oil paintings and drawings that honours the great tradition of Maritime painting in Ireland and the US. I am immensely proud to be showing
at the prestigious National Maritime Museum of Ireland for the third time in my career.
