Buy Local & Support Local Businesses
This month in our Love Dun Laoghaire campaign we are celebrating reopening of our community and businesses after long months of a strict COVID-19 lockdown. We did and still do so many hard things together and we can’t thank you enough for being such a great support to our local businesses.
We are very excited to present to you some well-known Dun Laoghaire businesses, but also new faces in our town. There are offers for everyone’s needs, so get inspired and make sure to stop by their shops to support them.
Dun Laoghaire Pharmacy
Run by a mother and daughter team, Dun Laoghaire Pharmacy is with us since 2004. As the business grew they needed a new space more suitable for their pharmacy. They found a beautiful location on the main street, custom designed it for their needs and moved to the new premises in 2014.
Deirdre (the mother) told us that as soon as they opened the shop there was a great demand for natural, organic products, sourced in Ireland. That prompted them to specialise in local organic products. Cancer patients are particularly careful about their skin care and what they put on their body, so Dun Laoghaire Pharmacy made sure to have products to support this vulnerable group of people. All their cosmetics are natural and organic ranges.
They have products produced right here in Dun Laoghaire including Ruth’s soaps and Uganda oils. They also carry brands like Neostrata, Pestele Mortar, Ren, Vichy, 2B Organic, Nuxe, Oleiq, and many more.
Dun Laoghaire Pharmacy has a great range of baby organic products.
Deirdre loves that she and her business are a part of Dun Laoghaire community. All people who work on the main street are there for a long time and there’s a sense of comradery between them. At the same time, Deirdre noticed that we like and want to support our local businesses and by products that are environmentally friendly.
Our locals appreciate that her team is highly knowledgeable about their products and health care advice they provide. People’s health comes before profit, so you can rest assured that you’ll get the product that’s most suitable for you.
Deirdre and Jennifer Leahy, owners at Dun Laoghaire Pharmacy

E-Revolution
Please welcome a new business in Dun Laoghaire – E-Revolution. We had a great pleasure to speak to Robert the owner, and learn so much about new products on our market, you won’t be able to resist.
Although Robert and E-Revolution are new in the town, they’ve been in business for 30 years. They have their head office in Tallaght. E-Revolution decided to get into green bikes because of the expansion of green economy and cycling in general. About three years ago they tried to find bikes that looked cooler than your regular e-bikes and what’s available in the market. They have Michael Blast brand from Australia and the Ruffian and Lil Buddy from Germany and both of them have a vintage theme of 1950’s motorbikes. E-Revolution team loved them and enabled distribution of these brands to Ireland.
Coming to Dun Laoghaire was a next step in their business when they decided to come close to people on the coast, close to cycling paths. In the evenings and weekends our coast is full of people, so Robert and his team saw a great opportunity to expand. It’s been only a few days since they opened for the business in Dun Laoghaire, but the response has been great so far, and Robert feels very enthusiastic. His team received a warm welcome from surrounding local shop owners, stating that it’s good to see something different on our main street and they are sure it will attract more people and give a new life to our town.
What makes their bikes stand out is the way they look. They are one of the biggest distributors of retro-vintage bikes. They are stylish, cool, and different and that’s what attracts people when they come in to the shop. Also, their specialist products price competitively. Most people think that the bikes cost a lot more, so they are in for a real surprise when Robert tells them that they start at 2,500 EUR. Finally, an increase in cycle to work support makes it a lot easier and the bikes more affordable.
Robert also noticed one interesting trend. Previously people in their 30’s or 40’s were their main customers, but now, people in their 50’s and 60’s are buying the bikes more.
Robert Murray, owner at E-Revolution
Special Offers in E-Revolution
E-Revolution team offers a free helmet for anyone who purchase a bike.
Helmets are popular and sell well online on their own. The color range is great including for kids. Robert told us that kids actually want to wear the helmets purchased in their shop.
The range of their products includes:
Electric bikes: Greaser Classic, Greaser Springer, Lil Buddy, The Ruffian, The Slim, The Outsider, Vacay Classic, Vacay Springer
Joyor Electric scooters, Helmets for Adults and Kids, Accessories.
How to Buy From E-Revolution
You can buy bikes in person, stopping by in their shop on the George’s Street. You can also visit them in their head office in Tallaght on Airton Rd. People can also learn more about products and reach out to their team over their website or social media channels. In fact, social media channels have been a bit thing and help for E-Revolution, as people outside of Ireland can see their products and recommend to their family and friends.
Their team offers delivery service, but usually as the product requires significant investment, people like to come to the shop and do the test drive, and that is possible in Dun Laoghaire now.

The Zip Yard
We had a great pleasure to speak to Juliet O’Connell, a proprietor of the Zip Yard in Dun Laoghaire. The Zip Yard offers bespoke tailoring service. This lovely lady has been in Dun Laoghaire with her business since November 2009. Juliet opened the branch in Dun Laoghaire because she saw a gap in the market for people who don’t fall into conventional clothes sizing. As people want to feel good and look good, but don’t often feet into conventional clothes sizes, adjusting the clothes to their needs can help bring back good emotions and confidence.
The Zip Yard is proud to have a great team of exceptional designers, tailors and dress-makers. Their qualification and experience are second to none. They are able to take in intrinsic work and expensive brands that other business would be reluctant to work with and people can be confident that the staff will deliver the best quality of work. The Zip Yard has an advantage of large number of staff members, so they are able to have a quick turn around time for their services and take in big volumes.
As Juliet likes to say, there’s no job too big or too for the Zip Yard team.
Her team is trying to encourage more footfall in the town by providing services to people who live in the vicinity. It is also great to see that their customer are loyal and coming back. For example they have the same children who used their services for communion dresses come back for their graduation dresses. Dun Laoghaire just provides a great sense of community and very special connection.
Juliet O’Connell, proprietor at The Zip Yard Dun Laoghaire
Specialities of The Zip Yard
Juliet decided to go back to basics with her team and bring back collaboration with other local businesses to their focus. They collaborate with local boutiques, and businesses in the town, local hotels that are reopening, local schools for alternations and repairs of school uniforms. Graduations are in focus at the moment so they are looking into them as well.
They work with brides on their gowns for weddings.
They are alternating and updating clothes and help sustainable fashion. She encourages people to look into their wardrobes before starting a new purchase and tweak it so that is wearable again instead of buying something similar in the shops.
How to Buy From The Zip Yard
The Zip Yard team offers in-person services. They are open from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm from Monday to Saturday. You can schedule a free consultation with her team for clothes alternations. They will provide you with options and prices.

ProPrint
Another handsome face we are happy to see again back in his business is Keith Guthrie, owner of ProPrint. Keith has been is in Dun Laoghaire since 2001. Many of you probably remember that this shop was ProntaPrint before it changed the name. Keith bought it and turned it into an independently owned business and ProPrint is servicing our community ever since. However, Keith is in the print business longer than that. He started in Mayo where he is originally from 26 years ago. He moved to Dun Laoghaire in 2001 and slowly but steadily has built his way as an independent print shop owner. As he said “it’s been happily ever after” since 2014.
Keith’s biggest motivation that inspires his work are his two sons who are 14 and 11. Meeting and working with people bring him great satisfaction as well. He told us that a lot of people in the past days just had a need to stop by the shop to greet him and say it’s great to see him in person again. Keith said that working with good, decent people in our community makes his job a lot easier and enjoyable.
Printing allows a personal touch that’s maybe not possible with other services. It gives us an opportunity to touch and feel the materials being worked with and get in a close proximity with the products we are purchasing, and that makes it different. Many people like to see what they are getting before they pay for it and to deal with actual person. People can also come to Keith’s shop to ask any questions they have about his services. These are usually questions about types of papers, colors, good colors for businesses and Keith is always happy to help.

MMCC Stoves & Fireplaces
We can’t imagine any Irish home without a fireplace and we are lucky to have a local business that’s taking care of this important part of our homes. McCallig Stoves & Fireplaces is a family owned business and we were delighted to talk to Marcus, the business owner. He has been in the business for twenty one years. Originally his company started manufacturing fireplaces and it was called Dun Laoghaire Fireplaces. Marcus learned how to make fireplaces from stone. He was working with the company called Marble and Granite Supplies where he was the main subcontractor. Marcus open the shop in Dun Laoghaire three years ago and he combines fitting work with being in the shop.
What makes MM CC Stoves & Fireplaces great is that they supply and install everything themselves. They don’t have subcontractors. The same person who is selling is also installing the fireplaces, so there’s no a middle man. Marcus can help you to choose the right stove and fireplace for your home and can guarantee the quality.
