May sees Dún Laoghaire bustling with community and cultural events. The month kicks off with the Dún Laoghaire Tidy Towns Bumper Table Quiz on May 8th aiming to raise funds to support their work in our town. The summer sailing season begins with about 30 cruisers launched by local yacht clubs. A new E-Planning website has been launched by the County Council to simplify planning applications. DLR LEO is organising a free Trading Online Voucher Webinar on May 13th to assist small businesses get online. The cruise ship season is also underway with 80 scheduled visits to our harbour.
Local community efforts were celebrated through the Community and Volunteer Awards while artistic talents are to the fore at National Drawing Day events on May 18th. Social inclusion is in focus with the Festival of Inclusion running from May 15th-26th. Finally, the DLR First Frames Scheme continues to support emerging filmmakers, showcasing local and international talent.

Dún Laoghaire Harbour Yacht Clubs – Start of Summer Sailing Season
Dun Laoghaire Harbour hosted the beginning of the 2024 summer sailing season on Dublin Bay. The National Yacht Club and the adjacent Royal St. George YC each utilized mobile cranes to launch about 30 sailing cruisers, while the DMYC on the West Pier conducted a similar operation. These vessels had been stored on land at the club facilities over the winter.
DLR CoCo Launched a New Online Portal – E-Planning website
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council introduced a new online planning application service accessible through the Local Government National E-Planning website. This new digital platform simplifies the process, allowing citizens to submit and track their planning applications anytime from home or office. The service is designed to be user-friendly, and a workshop for agents will be held soon to explain the system’s functionality.
