Dún Laoghaire Town Santa Parade

We all agree that there’s no better way to kick off the Dún Laoghaire Town Christmas Festival than with a special Santa Parade event. It will be one of the highlights of the holiday season for our town’s Christmas Festival this year. We had the great pleasure of speaking to Cllr Lorraine Hall, who has taken the lead in organising this particular event, about what’s planned.

The Santa Parade is scheduled for Saturday, the 25th of November from 12pm.

Lorraine outlined that Santa will start his parade from the County Hall on Marine Road. His journey, on a festively decorated electric train, takes him through the heart of Dún Laoghaire up the Marine Road, turning right to George’s Street and heading to Myrtle Square where the community will gather for a chance to meet him.

Santa’s route does not end there. He will then go up Convent Lane through the town to the People’s Park. His parade will end at the Maritime Museum where he is taking up residence for the Christmas period at the Santa Experience in the Maritime Museum throughout the holiday season.

Summary of the route for the Santa Parade

  • Starts at DLR County Hall
  • Myrtle Square
  • People’s Park
  • Ends at the Maritime Museum Santa Experience

According to Lorraine this parade by Santa is part of a wider Christmas Festival that aims to bring vibrancy to our town over the Christmas period. Dún Laoghaire will also shine under the glow of Christmas lights and enjoy a variety of events and initiatives. Lorraine emphasised that the Dún Laoghaire Town Christmas Festival, including the Santa Parade is a collaborative effort, supported by various local associations and stakeholders, including the Dún Laoghaire Business Association, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, Digital Dun Laoghaire and community groups. The goal is to enhance the local festive experience and to reinforce the support for local businesses amidst the rising tide of online shopping.

As the date nears, residents and visitors are reminded of the collective effort that underpins the event’s success, ensuring a memorable and merry atmosphere for all who partake in the Santa Arrival celebration.
