This month in Dun Laoghaire, progress made on Myrtle Square & Convent Lane greening project and the Phase 2 Dun Laoghaire Baths universal access works. Digital Dun Laoghaire launched their “Hidden in Plain Sight” scavenger map and made commitments towards the town’s regeneration. The community enjoyed ArtNetDLR exhibitions and welcomed the arrival of 100,000th cruise-line passenger to the town. In sport news, Moran and Abom emerged victorious. An inviting opportunity came up in the Dun Laoghaire Ambassador Programme while the Dun Laoghaire Town Team welcomed a new chair. Furthermore, the town’s based board game cafe kick-started a funding campaign and residents were treated to stories of courage and war on the Dun Laoghaire Harbour walking Trail. September saw Dun Laoghaire as an autumn dream town.

Update on Myrtle Square & Convent Lane Greening Project
Phase 2A & Phase 2B
Phase 2A – Paving works have ramped up significantly and have progressed well this week, works are now located in front of the pet republic and will continue along this section next week., the first section of Phase 2A has also been grouted today, next week the landscaping contractor will commence planting works along phase 2A, 6 multi stemmed Pine trees will be planted along the front of Bloomfield and a large amount of ground cover greening will also be planted.
Phase 2B – Paving works are steadily progressing and will continue towards Convent road next week, the Base course of the road was laid by the Tarmacing contractor earlier this week.
Myrtle Square.
The Greening works on the square are almost complete, a number of specimen trees are to be planted, some of the climbers have also been planted at the canopy.
All the benches have been fitted and the strip lighting under the benches has also been installed by the public lighting contractor.
George’s Street
A Gas main was struck earlier in the week and this delayed works on phase 2 by a number of days, the repair to gas main was completed yesterday and Cumnor have recommenced laying future proof connections, next week the granite kerbing will be laid and works will be extending in front of the hospital entrance, during these works all access will be maintained to the hospital.
Next week Cumnor will have an additional crew on site to commence works in front of the former Argos building, and a number of changes will be made to the pedestrian management plan.

Digital DÚn Laoghaire have launched their ‘Hidden in Plain Sight’ scavenger map
Digital Dun Laoghaire have launched their ‘Hidden in Plain Sight’ scavenger map as part of Heritage Week 2023. The new map has been part supported by DLR CoCo’s Business Area Promotion grants and is the third in a set of guides which Digital Dun Laoghaire have created for the town, the first two are Historical Walking Tour and Walking tour of Dun Laoghaire’s Murals.
ArtNetDlr Exhibitions – CROSSCURRENTS Collaborative Exhibition
In preparation for ArtNetdlr Collaborative Exhibition CROSSCURRENTS ArtNetDlr is inviting artists to fill out an expression of interest by completing this Crosscurrents registration form, for planning and scaling purpose only. All details will be announced shortly, in September.
This exhibition will take place in the dlr Lexicon Gallery in September and October 2024.
The closing date for inclusion in the project will be September 30, 2023.
DÚn Laoghaire Ambassador Programme – Would you like to be one?
This summer, Dún Laoghaire Harbour welcomed a record breaking 90+ cruise ships with 235,000 visitors to Ireland. We are halfway through these arrivals with another 50 cruise ships due in October.
Dlr introduced improvements for these visitors with the addition of a second Tourist Office to greet them and Dún Laoghaire Business Association Souvenir Kiosk for visitors to pick up last minute Irish gifts at the Cruise Embarkation area.
A new volunteer initiative was set up this season by local businessperson, Sinéad Quinn, recruiting locals to be DL Welcome Ambassadors. These volunteers can be spotted around the town in red jackets directing tourists to local businesses, attractions and amenities, helping to promote Dún Laoghaire.

Digital DÚn Laoghaire’s commitment to our town’s regeneration
As part of Digital Dun Laoghaire’s commitment to our town’s regeneration for Heritage Week 2023 they have launched a report containing a number of ambitious, long term concept projects that can build on Dun Laoghaire’s strengths to create a vibrant, sustainable locality for current and future generations of businesses and residents.
DÚn Laoghaire Town Team Has a New Chair
Eoin Costello, the retiring chair of Dun Laoghaire Town Team wished a warm welcome to the new chair Sinead Buckley Quinn. Eoin expressed that it was a pleasure to volunteer some of his time over the past year, stressing that it was a busy time for the whole Town Team.

This immersive experience enables visitors to delve into the captivating history and heritage of one of Ireland’s most iconic harbours.
