Welcome to our September 2024 Dún Laoghaire Town Update

The DLR Chamber is commemorating its 75th anniversary by hosting the DLR Chamber Awards, inviting local businesses to showcase their accomplishments. The deadline for entries is September 20th. Additionally, the DLR Public Participation Network (PPN) has released its autumn training schedule, offering a series of free workshops for network members throughout September and October, covering topics like facilitation skills, grant applications, and impactful PowerPoint presentations.

A workshop for stakeholders for the next Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Corporate Plan 2025-2029 is taking place on September 17th. DLR CoCo is offering an ‘Energy Tune Up Clinic’ on September 11th to help residents reduce energy costs, and a ‘Getting Started with AI’ workshop is taking place on September 26th at the Royal Marine Hotel by well known expert Jonathan McCrea who will show businesses how to harness AI for growth. 

Other notable events this September include the ArtNetDlr “Crosscurrents Exhibition” from September 7th to October 30th, and a virtual reality adventure session at dlr LexIcon on September 28th. Additionally, Carnival Cruise Line announced the Carnival Legend’s return to Dun Laoghaire in 2026, and finally the DLR LEO is offering training on ‘Achieving Excellence in Sales’.

DLR Chamber Awards Open For Entries

DLR Chamber is celebrating 75 years of supporting the DLR business community. Its annual awards are an opportunity for the businesses in our county to enter and demonstrate their achievements. Entry closure date is 20th September for judging and their Gala Awards night will be hosted in The Royal Marine Hotel, Thursday 17th October from 7pm.

Getting Started with AI – Workshop with Jonathan McCrea

Join “Getting Started with AI: The No-Code Playbook.” workshop. The workshop will take place on September 26th at the Royal Marine Hotel, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. It’s designed to be a practical, hands-on experience where attendees will learn to use AI in a number of different ways without needing any coding skills.

DLR CoCo: dlr Energy Tune Up Clinic

If you would like to reduce your energy bills and make your home more comfortable this winter then come to dlr’s ‘Energy Tune Up Clinic’ on Wednesday morning, 11th of  September in the Studio at dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire.

Dún Laoghaire Harbour Swim – A Curious Case of the Second Annual Event

A group is selling tickets for a second annual Dún Laoghaire Harbour Swim but lacks permission for the event. The Leinster Open Sea group has advertised the swim for September 7 but Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council stated, “No permission has been granted for a Harbour Swim on September 7, 2024. The Annual Harbour Swim took place on August 4, 2024.” Source – The Currency.

Stakeholders Workshop for next Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Corporate Plan 2025-2029

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is currently engaging in the development of its Corporate Plan for 2025-2029 and invites its valued stakeholders to contribute to determining the Council’s priorities for the next five years.

Any interested members of the groups are invited to attend a workshop on the Corporate Plan on Tuesday, September 17th, at 6:00 PM in County Hall.

Carnival Legend to Return to Dún Laoghaire Harbour in 2026

Carnival Cruise Line announced that the Carnival Legend will cruise in Europe during the summer of 2026. The program begins with a trans-Atlantic crossing in May 2026. This 14-day cruise departs from Miami to Dover, England, featuring stops in Liverpool, Holyhead, and our Dun Laoghaire.
