Guidelines For Attendees
Duration
The parade will last for approximately one and a half hours from 11am – 12.30pm
Parade Route
The parade route will be along the coast road beginning at Islington Avenue, proceeding along Queen’s Road, and will end at the Marine Road junction into the Harbour, with parade participants dispersing into the Harbour area. See route map below.
Road Closures
The Organising Committee has applied for a road closure licence from Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, from 9am to 2pm.
The road closure licence will close Queen’s Road to vehicular traffic, except for emergency vehicles, with traffic diversions through George’s Street Upper.
It will not be possible to access/exit any area directly along the proposed route by vehicle during the closure. Adjacent areas should also anticipate restricted access on the 17th.
Plan Ahead
For a smooth experience, we encourage everyone attending the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dun Laoghaire to walk, cycle, or use public transport where possible. If you’re driving, be sure to plan ahead, as road closures will be in place. Check available parking options in Dun Laoghaire in advance to make your arrival hassle-free.

Parade Guidelines for participants
This application is intended for providing the Parade Selection Committee with the information necessary to choose the most appropriate units for the parade. We regret that since the parade length must be limited, not all applicants can be selected. Therefore, we hope that you will provide as complete a description as possible, so that we may have every opportunity to consider your unit’s merits.
- Group leaders are responsible for ensuring health and safety of their groups, safe guarding of participants under the age of 18yrs as well as ensuring that children in their care are returned safely to their parents after the parade. Children must have adults walking with them at all times.
- Group leaders to march at the front and ensure they keep with the timing of the parade.
- The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dun Laoghaire is an inclusive community event and therefore no political statements/campaigning and/or slogans should be made by participant groups.
- Every participant group should provide music whether live or via speakers to compliment their group.
- No items to be thrown into the crowds at any time.
- No smoking or drinking is permitted at the staging area or on the parade route at any time.
- Every group should have their group name displayed clearly on a banner at the start of their unit.
- Drivers of vehicles must ensure that all vehicles and floats can safely pass under any overhead power cables prior to the event.
- If participants are riding on the floats, safety railings must be fitted to trucks and will be required to meet the satisfaction of the Event Safety Advisor.
- All décor and items are to be securely fixed.
- No objects should protrude in a way which could cause potential injury to persons in or around the vehicle.
- Materials and fabrics should be fire-proofed and/or have the relevant fire certification.
- Any truck or vehicle in the parade need to: Be in good working order and roadworthy; Have a vehicle excise license (taxed);Have tyres in good condition; Have working turning indicators and lights; Be fully insured and evidence of this and able to provide evidence.
